The Museum was designed by George Cary for the 1901 Pan-American Exposition where it served as the New York State Building. The only permanent Exposition building, it became the home of the Buffalo Historical Society in 1902.
The Japanese Garden in Delaware Park spans over 6 acres and is placed between the foothill of The Buffalo History Museum and Mirror Lake. Created in conjunction with the city of Buffalo becoming a sister city to Kanazawa Japan in 1962. Designing the garden began in 1970 and was completed in 1975.
